The West as America: Reinterpreting Images of the Frontier, 1820-1920," an exhibit at the Smithsonian Institution's National Museum of American Art, has become the latest target in the assault on "politically correct" thought by longtime conservatives, onetime radicals and academics enamored of campus life before the advent of large numbers of women and minority students.

Critics accusing this show of being "P.C." have once again wrapped themselves in the mantle of intellectual liberalism, while accusing their opponents of political indoctrination and thought ... [Fighting for the West]


I am using a lesson plan, on this subject, created by the Smithsonian. If everything turns out well, it should be a good lesson, with a lot to offer the students. Now I just need to get out and find children's literature to teach to the class for the bulk of the lessons! Yay.
