twenty-three & a half years ago

... my parents got married.

A little less than a year later, I was born.
Two and half years after that, my sister was born.
About four years later, my dad was laid off.
He stayed home while my mom worked.
Years later, both children in college.
And they are both happy and together.
I want the strength in my future marriage as I see in theirs.
The stability in their relationship helped my growth.
It was more than a commitment to each other.
It was a commitment to our family.
To the lives they would cultivate.
